# 1. Connect Your Billing System

PeakCommerce is built to run on top of your existing billing system — most often **Zuora** — as the source of truth for your plans, charges, and subscriptions. Connecting it is the foundation of setup: once linked, your **catalog syncs directly from billing**, so what you sell in PeakCommerce mirrors what you actually bill, without re-entering pricing by hand.

**What connecting gives you**

* **A synced catalog** — your plans and their charges flow into PeakCommerce, ready to sell.
* **Write-back** — commerce actions like checkout and subscription changes post to your billing system.
* **Alignment over time** — as your billing catalog changes, PeakCommerce stays in step.

**How to connect**

1. Open **Settings → Integrations**.
2. Choose your provider. PeakCommerce connects **Zuora**, **Stripe**, **Maxio**, and others — or any billing system.
3. Add a connection and enter its credentials.
4. Run an initial **catalog sync** so your plans appear under **Commerce → Product Catalog**.

**Who and when:** connecting a provider needs credentials from that system, so have them on hand — or bring the question to kickoff. Your Implementation Team can help with Zuora-specific configuration.

**Gotcha:** until a billing system is connected and synced, your catalog will show no plans. That's expected — the catalog is populated *from* billing, not entered by hand.

**Learn more:** see the **Integrations** documentation for provider-specific setup (including Zuora Billing), and [Billing & Catalog settings](/product/settings/billing-catalog.md) for sync and cache controls.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.peakcommerce.com/product/getting-started/setup/1.-connect-your-billing-system.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
